How Long Does Whole Home Window Replacement Take in DFW?

One of the most common questions homeowners ask before committing to a whole home window replacement is: how long will this take? The good news is that most DFW homes can have all their windows replaced in one to two days. Here's what to expect.

Typical Project Timelines

Home SizeNumber of WindowsTypical Installation Time
Small (under 1,500 sq ft)8–12 windows1 day
Medium (1,500–2,500 sq ft)12–18 windows1–2 days
Large (2,500–4,000 sq ft)18–25 windows2 days

| Very large (4,000+ sq ft) | 25+ windows | 2–3 days | These timelines assume standard double-hung or casement windows. Bay windows, bow windows, or custom shapes take longer per unit.

The Day-by-Day Process

Before Installation Day

  • Measurement visit: 1–2 weeks before installation, our technician measures every window precisely.
  • Custom order: Windows are custom-manufactured to your measurements. Lead time is typically 2–4 weeks.
  • Scheduling: We schedule your installation date and confirm the crew size needed.

Installation Day Morning: The

crew arrives with all windows pre-labeled by room. They start on the ground floor, typically working from one end of the house to the other. Per window process (approximately 45–90 minutes each): 1. Remove interior trim and stops 2. Remove the old window unit 3. Inspect and prepare the rough opening 4. Install new window unit, check level and plumb 5. Insulate and seal around the frame 6. Re-install or replace interior trim 7. Apply exterior caulk and sealant End of day: All installed windows are operational and weathertight. The crew cleans up debris and removes old windows.

After Installation

  • Final walkthrough with homeowner to demonstrate window operation
  • Touch-up caulking and trim as needed
  • Warranty documentation provided

How to Prepare Your Home To

help the installation go smoothly:

  • Clear the area around each window — move furniture, blinds, curtains, and valuables at least 3 feet from each window.
  • Remove window treatments — take down blinds and curtain rods before the crew arrives.
  • Secure pets — keep pets in a room away from the work area.
  • Plan for some noise — the installation process involves some hammering and power tools, but is not excessively loud.
  • Keep the home accessible — the crew will need to move between interior and exterior throughout the day.

Will My Home Be Secure Overnight? If

the project spans two days, all installed windows will be fully operational and locked at the end of day one. Any windows not yet replaced will have their original windows in place. Your home will be secure each night.
